GENERAL SITES

Most of these have a search box that will let you search the site for specific information on Africa (e.g.  Sudan, poverty)  If they don't, you can still search the specific site

by typing in your keywords into the search engine (e.g. Google), then site: and the URL.  This lets you search for specific information only on the website you want, rather than the entire internet!

Global Issues:  Excellent site with information on most aspects you need--poverty, indigenous peoples, environment.  It's here!

USDA African Project

Sudan: A Nation Divided:   BBC site with links to articles

BBC Africa:  You'll need to dig a bit here, but some good information

 

Zimbabwe: Shadows and Lies.  Companion website for the PBS' Frontline report. Plenty of links to articles, videos, etc.

CIA World Factbook:   Specific country information.  The "Transnational issues" will give information related to problems in the country that extend beyond the borders.

ENVIRONMENT

African Conservation Foundation:  Home site for a group dedicated to preserving Africa's wildlife habitat. CLick the "News" link for articles.

                   The " Explorer" link will lead you to links for specific countries.

 WWF: Where We Work:   World Wildlife Federation site--use the interactive map or pop up link (below, on the right) to locate specific information on parts of Africa.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

Native Planet:  Great site for indigenous cultures. Click on a specific group for related statistics and information.

Baka Pygmies:  BEAUTIFUL website!!!!  It may not tell you the problems they face, but you'll develop a solid appreciation of the culture, so I included it.

African Pygmy Hunt Threatened:  Article from National Geographic.  Again, check out the "Related Links" box!

HUMAN RIGHTS

 POWA:  People opposing women abuse [sic!], a South African group working with abused women. Some good information here.

GenderStats:  FANTASTIC site for recent data!  Choose the type of information you want on the right, the country from the pop-up list on the top.

Human Rights Country Reports:  From the US Dept. of State

Save the Children:  Collection of articles related to hunger and poverty in Africa from the Save the Children Foundation.  You can also use the search box to search other terms.
